PEABODY – Brooksby Village’s community television station TV9 was recently recognized with the esteemed Telly Award for their recruitment video produced by over 100 resident volunteers.”It’s a rewarding feeling,” said Sarah MacLean, Community TV Lead Coordinator. “It makes me even more proud of our residents.”The video was submitted into the 2007 competition back in October just on a whim, said MacLean. It wasn’t until just a few weeks ago that Telly Award officials notified the assisted living community of their bronze award for their behind the scenes look at “Creating Television.” It included testimonials of residents involved about operating camera, editing pieces, and working in the studio. There are over 14,000 voluntary submissions annually from all 50 states and many foreign countries. Since 1978, the award has honored local, regional, and cable TV commercials, programs, videos, and films. Judges composed of qualified advertising, production, and other creative professionals rate each entry on a 10-point scale. Entries do not compete against each other, but rather for the Telly Award’s highly sought after title of film excellence.”This is a very prestigious award and we are very excited about it,” MacLean said. “Our goal was just to get residents involved with the community more and mostly to try something new.”Brooksby’s TV9 produces a live show every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They air a variety of specialty shows from cooking to sports. They even have their own HGTV-inspired series that looks inside resident’s apartments and helps with their home décor. And, their station wouldn’t be complete without local news coverage and current event listings.MacLean said their game show is a big hit. Volunteers develop questions ranging in difficulty from easy to hard, and teams of three battle it out for the prize.Although they haven’t received their trophy yet, MacLean did say it’s on the way.”It’s very meaningful to me, but I’m more excited for them,” she said about receiving the honor. “It really says something about how they feel about TV9 and the station and being a part of something that brings the community together.”
