Joyce Erekson / The Daily ItemLYNN – The Lynn School Committee has unanimously approved a plan that allows Lynn Tech hockey players to skate with the Lynn Jets, the combined English/Classical team. The merger has already received approval from the Northeastern Conference, but still has to go before District A of the MIAA.Tech had been the host school for a cooperative team that also included North Shore Tech and Essex Aggie. When the cooperative arrangement began, the bulk of the players were from Tech, but this past season, most were from North Shore Tech and Essex Aggie.Talk of having the Tech players skate with the Jets heated up after coach Tim Serino resigned. The move comes at a time when the city is facing big budget cuts on both the city and school sides of the ledger. Superintendent Nicholas Kostan is looking at shutting the Washington and Fallon schools, axing three programs and trimming 160 jobs.School Committeeman Jeff Newhall said $100,000 is being cut from the city athletic budget, but approximately $30,000 of that will come from the elimination of Tech hockey.
