LYNN – The Lynn Police Department will begin holding its third annual Citizens’ Police Academy on Tuesday, April 29. This opportunity will be presented to Lynn residents, and Lynn business owners who are 18-years-old and over, free of charge. This positive learning experience will provide students with insight into the various aspects of policing. Citizens will learn about police operations, and the challenges officers face.All of the instructors are members of the Lynn Police Department, who have expertise in specific areas of police work. A sampling of the topics to be covered during the academy include: police right of arrest, search and seizure, patrol and arrest procedures, motor vehicle laws, domestic violence laws, crime scene investigations, crime prevention, sex offender registration and other interesting subjects. Applicants should exhibit a strong desire to learn, come to class prepared and participate in the various discussions.Students may have the opportunity to schedule a ride-along in a cruiser or observation in the communication center. All participants must commit themselves to the entire program. The classes begin promptly at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Parking will be made available across the street from the police station, located at 300 Washington St.Please apply as soon as possible. The academy will be limited to only 20 students.
