SALEM – Salem State College students plan to participate in the 24th annual Hunger Cleanup on Saturday, April 5, by building picnic tables, doing yard work and organizing the thrift store at the Salem Mission.According to Eileen McG-ivney, a campus organizer at Salem State and North Shore Community College, students across the country volunteer during the event to spend a day carrying out a cleanup project in their community.”This is also a fundraiser for Salem Mission, the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness and relief efforts for Darfur refugees.”By having their friends and family sponsor the work they do on April 5, the students are hoping to raise $500 this year,” McGivney said.The Salem State students will meet at the campus center at 9 a.m. before heading over to the Salem Mission until about 2:30 p.m. For more information about the event, go online to www.hungercleanup.org.
