LYNN ? Stan Handman doesn’t want you to slip and fall.As owner and president of Lynn-based NevaSlip, Handman’s company produces a liquid chemical that when applied to floor tiles leaves behind a treaded surface.Handman, a Lynnfield resident, started the company 18 years ago with an associate from Philadelphia, a chemist who actually concocted the secret formula.?It’s basically a liquid, microscopic edging process. The liquid puts a tread into the tile but you don’t see it. The wetter it becomes, the less slippery it becomes, which is ingenious,” he said.NevaSlip, guaranteed effective for 5-8 years, is often installed in fast-food restaurants, office buildings and hotels. Handman counts among his clients McDonald’s and Burger King restaurants, and Hyatt and Marriott hotels, Fleet Bank, the Bronx Zoo and Boston University.?We have sold to just about every global company you can think of,” he said, explaining that the liquid is bottled or barreled at a manufacturing plant in Dudley and shipped to a network of distribution sites throughout the country.NevaSlip can be applied to tile, marble, granite, terrazzo and concrete floors, indoors or out, to give them what’s known in the flooring industry as a Static Coefficient of Friction (SCOF) reading that meets or exceeds requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for at least eight years.?It’s no secret that falls are the number one reason people are admitted to hospitals today,” said Handman. “Around 25,000 falls occur every day. But our NevaSlip service makes it easier than ever for a company anywhere in the country to protect employees and customers from falls while also protecting its bottom line.”According to Handman, since health care expenses and personal injury actions continue to rise, several corporations now look at NevaSlip installation as a significant cost-savings strategy. “Many insurance companies even require their corporate clients to install anti-slip surfaces to ensure coverage,” he said, adding that NevaSlip technicians often install anti-slip surfaces while businesses are closed.Architects, builders and owners of large commercial properties are key clients since they must try to prevent the dangers and liability involved in slip-and-fall accidents, he said.Late last year, NevaSlip expanded its core of trained technicians in Oregon, Washington, Alabama and Georgia. “We can now offer our service in all 50 states,” Handman said. The company was founded in 1990 as Trusty-Step International, when it was primarily a manufacturer and distributor of chemicals. NevaStep, with offices at 271 Western Ave., was set up set up to divorce that operation from the actual non-slip process. For more about NevaSlip, visit the company Web site at www.nevaslip.com.
