MARBLEHEAD – Town officials will have their chance to tour the Marblehead Village School next week to see first-hand what the building needs are.The Village School needs a new heating system – the present system has been on its last legs since 2000, according to School Committee members. The project is not eligible for state aid.The School Committee has invited the Board of Selectmen and members of the Finance Committee and Capital Planning Committee to take one-hour tours of the Village School Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m.Tours will meet in the front lobby of the building.The School Committee has appointed a special Building Oversight Committee to oversee cost and funding of the Marblehead Village School repairs. The School Committee will conduct its public hearing on next year’s budget Thursday evening so the committee will be free to deal with various capital proposals before Town Meeting. The Building Oversight Committee is scheduled to make its proposal for the Village School Thursday, April 3.Also before the School Committee April 3 are proposals for health-and-safety-driven repairs to the Gerry School, funding for the feasibility phase of the Glover School project, improvements to address basic security at all schools and technology needs. The Glover School project is eligible for state reimbursement.
