MARBLEHEAD-Linda Fuller was a teacher that other teachers remembered. When she died unexpectedly after a heart attack on Feb. 29, the news generated a chorus of stunned emails throughout the Marblehead teaching community. The Swampscott High graduate and one-time director of Swampscott’s Ocean Breeze Nursery became a kindergarten teacher in 1986 and taught for 20 years at the Coffin and Gerry schools in Marblehead. She took early retirement two years ago, at the age of 60.Coffin-Glover Principal Sean Satterfield told the School Committee Thursday evening that he partner-taught with Fuller when he began as a Grade 4 teacher 10 years ago.Satterfield recalled her as a caring, science-oriented educator who loved to get science into the classroom with aquariums and other equipment and get children out of the classroom for field trips to places like Joppa Flats, the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s education center in Newburyport. Her love of teaching could be seen as she became a substitute teacher during the past two years.Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac marveled at the amount of email teachers exchanged after her death. “Teachers are upset about it,” he said.Satterfield said that teachers have the chance to donate to the Joppa Flats center by contacting Betsy Watson, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln MA 01773 or at www.massaudubon.org.
