LYNN – In preparation for upcoming legislation banning the disposal of needles in municipal waste, the Lynn Board of Health announced the availability of one of the first MDPH Sharps Container Disposal sites in Massachusetts.The specially designed needle disposal kiosk was given to the city of Lynn by the State Department of Public Health and is located in the Health Department Clinic in City Hall, on the first floor in room 103.Loose needles are not accepted, but must be disposed of in a personal sharps container, two quart or smaller.Also accepted is a puncture resistant container such as a one-gallon bleach bottle or a one-pound sealed, taped coffee can.The kiosk does not accept glass containers, paper, or plastic bags or containers larger than a one-gallon bottle.Take your needle containers to the Health Clinic beginning March 11.Hours are as follows: Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m.A limited number of personal sharps containers are also available.
