LYNN – Three people were hurt Tuesday in a bad two-car crash that took down a utility pole and closed the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Essex Street.A man in his 50s was speeding in his Subaru westbound on Eastern Avenue when he missed a red light and plowed into the side of a Pontiac Grand Am that was taking a left turn from Essex Street, according to police.The force of the crash pushed the cars into a utility pole that completely snapped off its base, bringing down a traffic light across the street that was attached with the same wires.Three people in the Pontiac were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, according to Lt. Tom Reddy. The lieutenant said the victims were two males and one female who appeared to be in their 20s.The unidentified driver of the Subaru was not injured and speaking to police after the crash.Police at the scene said the driver would be cited for a red light violation and other charges may follow. Police did not release further details Tuesday night.The typically busy intersection was closed by a one-block radius after the accident. Crews worked to fix the pole well into Tuesday evening.
