SAUGUS – Comedian Johnny Pizzi of Saugus plans to walk the approximately 30 miles from the Town Hall steps to downtown Tyngsboro in order to help his longtime friend and colleague Kevin Knox.Knox is fighting a battle against cancer and currently lives at a holistic healing center in Florida. Funds raised by the March 22 benefit walk would help Knox defray his mounting medical expenses.”On Thursday, March 22, I’ll be standing on the steps of Town Hall at 5 a.m. with a coffee in my hand, ready to walk as far as I can,” said Pizzi, a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Boston and well-known host at Giggles Comedy Club on Route 1.”This is an attempt and I’ll give it my best shot. Kevin is one of the most special guys on the planet. I’ve done literally thousands of benefits at Giggles with him over the past 18 years and he never said no. In fact, he’s never said no to anything.”Pizzi said all are invited to seek pledges and join him on the walk. “When I think of how many people Kevin has helped, I can only ask myself what can I do for him. If I could and it would help, I would give him a kidney. He’s fighting a phenomenal battle and he has come close to not making it. One day he lost seven units of blood. The doctors said, ‘I don’t know how you’re still alive,'” Pizzi said.Knox, of Tyngsboro, chose a holistic healing center because he lost his mother, father and sister to cancer and all three were treated for the disease with conventional methods.Pizzi said he has raised $1,500 to date but hopes the walk pledges will significantly boost that amount. “The more the merrier. We need to keep Kevin in Florida for as long as it takes,” he said. “So far, people have been generous. I’ve been at Giggles for 18 years and one of the 15-year-old bus boys comes up to me, hands me a $20 bill and says, this is for Kevin Knox. I just wanted to cry.”To contact Pizzi, email him at [email protected] or call him at 781-420-1036. The event has been dubbed the “Kevin Never Said No’ walk.
