WOBURN – The Lynnfield boys hockey team defeated Revere, 6-2, at O’Brien Arena in Woburn in a Division 2 first-round game. Next up for Lynnfield is Peabody on Sunday.”We had a great first period,” Lynnfield coach Vin Mirasolo said. “Basically, after that, we just kept them at bay. The first period was the biggest difference. We need to look at all of the positives of the first and carry them over into the second round.””You can’t have a first period like that and expect to win,” Revere coach Jim Palumbo said. “They were all over us in the first period, and that was the game. This is something new; usually, we start well and struggle late. I was baffled, but we’ve played a lot of good teams this year, and their first line is as good as it gets.”Lynnfield took a 4-0 edge in the first period. At the 6:29 mark, Ryan Smith scored on assists from Eric Chiuve and Michael Connolly. Eighteen seconds later, John Lee scored, assisted by Mike Lang and Connolly. With four minutes left, John Connolly scored, assisted by Michael Connolly and Smith. With 1:23 left, on the power play, Smith scored his second goal, assisted by Lee.In the second period, Lynnfield outscored Revere 2-1 to make its lead 6-1. The period began when John Connolly scored on Lynnfield’s third power play of the period, assisted by Lee and Alex Young, for Connolly’s second goal of the game. Revere got what looked like a goal, but it was disallowed because of a high stick. Lynnfield scored again when Smith completed a hat trick on an unassisted shorthanded goal on a breakaway.With 1:18 left in the second period, Revere got on the board with a power-play goal from Jay Sasso, assisted by Chris Mastropietro and Paul Pelletier.The Patriots’ Dave Page scored off a post in the third period to account for the final score (Pelletier assist).
