Lynnfield senior forward Ryan Smith, who leads the North Shore in points, was named the MVP of the Cape Ann League for hockey as a part of the all-star team that was released on Friday.Smith, who has helped the Pioneers to a 13-2-5 record, has recorded 21 goals and 39 assists this year. He is joined on the all-CAL team by teammate Alex Young on defense. Rounding out the all-league team are Wilmington’s Ernie Mello, No. Andover’s Ryan Sifferlin and Newburyport’s Derek McCoy at forward. Keaton Cashin, Masconomet and Chris LeSage, Triton were chosen on defense. The all-league goalies are Wilmington’s Mike Cabral and Triton’s Justin Joslin.Smith’s linemates, John Connolly and Rob Pedicini, also were named to the team along with freshman goaltender Craig Cataldo.Joining them were forwards Kyle McElroy of Newburyport; Eric Siegal, Wilmington; Cam Greeley, Masco; Fred Hein and Tim McCauliffe, No. Reading; and Alex Roberts, Pentucket. The team is rounded out by defensemen Matt Calos of No. Reading; Dave Freeman, Newburyport; Max Wilkens, Wilmington; and John Blackwell, No. Andover.Wilmington’s Steve Scanlon, who has guided the Wildcats to a 14-1-3 record and a potential No. 1 seed in the upcoming Division 2 North tournament, was named Coach of the Year.The team will play the Northeastern Conference all-stars on Monday in Gloucester (7).
