The Gloucester High girls basketball team found a way to do what only one other team (Pentucket) has done this season – defeat Swampscott.Olivia Lufkin (12 points) was clutch at the line for the Fishermen down the stretch, hitting four of four in the final 20 seconds to seal a 53-50 win at Gloucester.”We did an excellent job defensively on Allie Beaulieu and Tara Nimkar in the second half,” Gloucester coach Jon Flanagan said. “We spread the scoring out and played very well together at both ends.”Beaulieu and Nimkar, the Big Blue’s deadly duo, scored 15 and 17 points, respectively. Jenicia Duggins had 15 points and Jeanette Anderson, the Northeastern Conference North Most Valuable Player, added seven.Peabody 52, Classical 43At Peabody, the game was tied at the half and after being outscored by the Tanners, 23-10, in the third quarter, the Rams (10-9) managed to make it a game down the stretch. They cut the deficit to four with about two minutes remaining, but couldn’t complete the comeback.Peabody’s Tawny Palmieri had 13 points and Lindsay Federico was good for 12 as the Tanners upped their record to 14-3, 13-2 Northeastern Conference. Federico also had 13 rebounds. The bench also provided some clutch play along the way for Peabody.Spellman 63, Fenwick 35At Brockton, the Crusaders (8-9) trailed 41-18 at the half and never got much closer. The Crusaders need to win two of the next three games to qualify for the state tournament. Bridget Dullea had six points in the loss.Winthrop 78, Marblehead 32At Marblehead, the Vikings (14-2) made easy work of this one with Courtney Finn Scoring 26 points, Nicole Giaquinto, 24 points, and Kristen Finn, 17 points.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary’s 5, Fontbonne 0At Quincy, the Spartans scored four second-period goals to remain perfect at 18-0.
