Stopping the English High girls basketball team is proving to be a challenge these days.Jenicia Duggins scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 70-54 win over Revere Tuesday at Revere. Duggins not only led all scorers, but she put on a clinic at the free-throw line, hitting 12-of-15 attempts. Jeanette Anderson also had a hot hand, scoring 20 points and pulling down 18 rebounds, while LaShaunda Hogan contributed 11 points and held one of Revere’s leading scoring threats, Christina Cavagnaro, scoreless.Olivia Dupree had four points and 10 rebounds and Kayla Murkison had six rebounds and four steals. Morgan Jenkins had 20 points for Revere. The Bulldogs (11-4) are home Friday against Peabody.Beverly 44, Classical 40At Beverly, the Rams (8-8, 6-7 Northeastern Conference) couldn’t get into a rhythm, although they did trim a nine-point deficit down in the final few minutes. Keila Brown had 11 points for Classical and Christina McKenzie added nine. Pierina Mora also played well with nine points.Tech 56, Whittier 42At Haverhill, the Tigers (9-4, 9-2 Commonwealth Conference) got the job done thanks to strong performances by sophomore Fanice Baptiste, who scored 19 points, and Katrina Freeman, 16 points. Jessica Underwood, who needs one more point to hit the 1,000-career-point mark, chipped in with 13 and Shena Mitchell had eight. Tech could find itself in a tie for first in the CAC Large with a win over Greater Lowell Friday. Minuteman and Shawsheen could find themselves in a three-way tie with Tech if they keep winning.Fenwick 55, Austin Prep 25At Peabody, the Crusaders (7-8) had this one under control all the way. Amy Pelletier led the Crusader offense with 15 points. Lara Bruni had 10 points and Bridget Dullea, 11 points. Fenwick needs to win three of its last five games to qualify for the state tournament.Gloucester 61, Saugus 30At Gloucester, the Fishermen (10-5) qualified for the Division 2 state tournament. The accomplishment is particularly notable in that the team went 4-14 last year.”We have the same girls from last year, with a couple of additions,” Gloucester coach Jon Flanagan said. “They worked hard to get to this point.”Freshman Hannah Cain had 18 points and Rachel White, 11 points. Liz Dean had eight points for Saugus.Masco 52, Lynnfield 26At Masco, the Chieftains (16-1) were just too much for the Pioneers to handle, but Lynnfield (3-14) did have a couple of bright spots. Nicole Crawford had 10 points and Alison Newell, eight points.”They’re undefeated in our league,” Lynnfield coach Bill Adams said. “They play tremendous defense.”
