LYNN – The Lynn Yacht Club has donated $1,000 to an emergency fuel assistance fund established by Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) to help seniors in the community stay warm this winter.Commodore Vin Scag said the yacht club recognizes the tough choices that some people have to make between filling their oil tank and buying food.”We want to do something to ease that burden for local seniors,” he said. The gift has become an annual tradition over the past three years, which GLSS Executive Director Ron Airey said the organization relies upon to meet the needs of area elders.Given on behalf of Post Commodore Bill Aylward, the gift has assisted other programs in the past in addition to GLSS.This year, however, the Yacht Club’s Board of Governors wanted the entire amount to go to the emergency fuel fund.”We want to put our resources where they will do the most good for seniors, especially those who might be isolated or homebound,” Aylward said. “They are our friends and neighbors.”Mayor Edward J. Clancy Jr. said the donation is a great example of the community-minded spirit that makes Lynn such a wonderful, caring place. For more information on how to apply to the Emergency Fuel Assistance fund, call GLSS’ Information and Referral Department at 781-599-0110.
