LYNN – North Shore Community College will host a two-day environmental seminar called “Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions For America,” Thursday, Jan. 31 and Friday, Feb. 1 at its Lynn campus to shed light on possible solutions to the worldwide climate change.The free public event is the only one being held in the area in conjunction with a national Focus on the Nation collegiate teach-in. The nationwide day of recognition is designed to support efforts to reduce global warming, and create a forum for college students and the overall American public to ask questions and learn more about what the country is doing to prevent the situation from worsening in the coming years.The first day of the event will feature short talks and demonstrations by local experts on a wide variety of environmental issues, including solar power, shoreline loss, energy conservation, agriculture and green construction.As a signatory to the American Colleges and Universities President’s Climate Commitment, NSCC President Wayne Burton has led the college in developing a Green Project involving on-campus public recycling, rainwater harvesting, environmentally friendly building and grounds equipment, and a college-wide educational component to teach students of all ages to think green.The Jan. 31 teach-in will be an opportunity to learn more about innovative climate commitment initiatives on the North Shore and to discuss action steps to help stop global warming.Featured speakers include Bob Tina from Lynn Regional Wastewater, Gerry Palano from the Mass. Department of Agriculture, Brad Bradshaw of the New England Clean Energy Council, David Hall of the Newburyport Tannery, Peter Phippen of Eight Towers and a Bay, Roger Schamel of the Global Warming Education Network, Melissa Diamond of the Food Project, Deborah Lapidus of Think Outside the Bottle and North Shore Community College Professors Yusef Hayes, Joe Mudugno and Barbara Ikalainen who will address green building, eco-consciousness and the Native American sustainability philosophy.The Chelsea Creek Action Group will also give a presentation on a diesel fuel study that recently took place in Chelsea and Boston.Each speaker will have a display table and exhibit items on display in the gym, and there will also be Segway Personal Transportation devices available for demonstrations.The second day will feature a “Dialogue with Decision Makers,” including local and national dignitaries, Sen. John Kerry, Sen. Thomas McGee, Rep. Mary Grant, Rep. John Keenan, Rep.
