LYNN – When Super Bowl XLII gets under way in Phoenix on Feb. 3, two lucky winners of the Greater Lynn YMCA’s Patriot Raffle will be in the crowd. The raffle winners will also receive round-trip air travel and hotel accommodations, according to YMCA Executive Director Bruce Macdonald.Tickets go on sale today. They are $100 and sales will be limited to 300 tickets. The drawing will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m., at the YMCA, 20 Neptune Boulevard. The proceeds benefit children’s programs at the Lynn YMCA,”Two people will get on a plane to Phoenix with tickets to the game in their pockets and hotel reservations,” said Macdonald, noting that this marks the fourth Patriots raffle sponsored by the local YMCA.”The first time we did this, a group of teachers from St. Mary’s High School won the raffle. There were about six of them and only two tickets, so they had to have their own mini-drawing.”The second Super Bowl raffle was won by former Item publisher B.J. Frazier, and more recently by Lynn businessman Dick Rehal. To purchase a raffle ticket, call the YMCA at (781) 581-3105 and stop by the main desk in the YMCA lobby.”It’s for a good cause,” Macdonald said.Rehal described his Super Bowl experience as among the top three in his life, surpassed only by his marriage and the birth of his three children. “It was that amazing,” he said.Super Bowl XLII, which pits the New England Patriots against the New York Giants will actually be played at a new stadium in Glendale, Ariz., just west of Phoenix. It is the new home of the Arizona Cardinals and a state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in North America to feature a retractable roof and a roll-out grass field.
