The Swampscott boys hockey team used three power play goals and Tyler Gallagher’s first career shutout to beat the Lynn Jets, 4-0, at Connery Rink on Wednesday.”We’ve been playing good hockey lately,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said. “We seem to be getting stronger as the games progress.”Jake Donahue scored the lone goal of the first period before Danny Rakoc picked up two power play goals and Alex DiDonato added the third to polish off the scoring.”Their goalie made the saves when he needed to,” Lynn coach Al Melanson said. “They were willing to pay the price and wanted it more.”Lynnfield 6, Amesbury 0At McVann-O’Keefe Rink, the Pioneer first line had a productive night. The trio of Dan O’Donnell, John Connolly and Ryan Smith combined for 13 points with O’Donnell netting a hat trick and an assist, Connolly two goals and two assists and Smith, five assists. Smith now has 11 goals and 28 assists and Connolly, 19 goals. Mark Connolly also helped out with a goal. Lynnfield is 7-2-2, 6-2-1 in the Cape Ann League.Saugus 3, Salem 0At Rockett Arena, the Sachems (6-5-1, 5-4-1 Northeastern Conference) righted the ship after a two-game losing streak. Senior defenseman Justin Chiulli gave Saugus a 1-0 lead in the second period on a power play goal. Joe Vecchione made it 2-0 three minutes later and Chiulli finished things off with another power play goal in the third period.Saugus out shot Salem 36-5. Goalie Paul Essery picked up his third shutout.Minuteman 5, Tech 3At Connery Rink, Minuteman scored three third period goals to put the Tigers (3-7) on ice. Tech led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Justin Colontuoni and Derek LeBlanc, but Minuteman tied it up early in the third. The Tigers regained the lead on Colontuoni’s second goal of the night, but it didn’t hold up. Minuteman’s Conlon Donahue tied the game midway through the third and then scored the game-winner 2:40 remaining. Minuteman made it 5-3 on an open netter with 22 seconds left.”It was an excellent game all the way through,” Tech coach Tim Serino said, “although we kind of ran out of gas. The kids played with intensity.”Serino was also happy with his team’s penalty killing. The Tigers killed off 5 1/2 minutes of penalties spanning late in the second period into the third.Danvers 3, Peabody 2At McVann-O’Keefe Rink, Danvers goalie Pat O’Kane kept the Tanners at bay with 33 saves. The Falcons went up 2-0 on goals by Colin Cooper in the first period and Troy Thibodeau in the second. Elijah Cohen scored on a power play to cut the lead in half, but Danvers’ Jay Sabino supplied the game-winner with just under three minutes remaining. Cohen cut the deficit to one with 1:14 to go, but the Falcons hung on for the win.Marblehead 3, Revere 2At Revere, the Headers (5-7) bounced back from a tough loss to Lynn on Saturday with a comeback win over the Patriots after trailing 2-0 in the first period.Eric Fader had a goal and an assist for Marblehead but it was Alex Whitmore picking up the game winner at 11:23 of the third.
