For the Saugus and Revere boys basketball teams, Tuesday’s affair at Saugus is one that will be remembered for quite a while.Four quarters weren’t enough to settle a winner, nor was one overtime. It took two overtimes and some clutch plays by point guard Tim Fontaine to give the Sachems the 84-78 victory in double overtime.”These kind of games are so much fun for the kids,” Saugus coach Titus Manderson said. “It definitely was a hard-fought game. Both teams competed in both halves and the overtime.”Fontaine might have only had eight points in the game, but four of them came in crunch time late in the second overtime. His first bucket came on a long-range jumper and the second was on a hard drive to the basket to put the dagger in Revere’s chances.”Tim really came up big,” Manderson said. “Any shot in overtime is huge because it’s so tough to answer.”Fontaine got the Sachems over the hump, but Ryan Anastos and Dan Internicola were the big reason for Saugus having a shot at winning. Anastos was simply outstanding, finishing with 32 points and 15 rebounds from his guard spot before fouling out in the first overtime. Internicola’s effort wasn’t too shabby either as he posted 24 points and 10 rebounds.”They both had outstanding games,” Manderson said.Saugus (3-6) might have gotten out with the win in regulation after overcoming a 10-point deficit in the third quarter if not for the heroics of Steve Ennamorati, who swished a three at the buzzer in regulation to tie the game at 63 and send the teams into overtime. Ennamorati finished the game with a team-high 21 points.”It was a lot of fun but it’s also tough, too,” Manderson said. “Because mistakes are magnified and that puts a lot of pressure on the kids.”Winthrop 66, Classical 61At Winthrop, the Vikings (7-2) trailed 60-59 with a minute remaining but used a six-point trip down the floor to take the lead and the win.”This gives us a big boost of confidence,” Winthrop coach Dave Brown said.Winthrop had things going its way in the first half, taking a 36-27 lead into the break. But the Rams (7-4) responded in the third, outscoring Winthrop 21-9 to take a 48-47 lead after three quarters. But Classical lost Jarell Byrd (12 points) and Tony Johnson (10 points) to fouls in the fourth quarter, allowing the Vikings to sneak back in the game.”We had no one to rebound in the fourth quarter,” Classical coach Tom Grassa said.Jasper Grassa’s 16 points led Classical while Dino Mallios had 22, 15 of them in the first half, to head the Winthrop offense. Jonathan Murdock had 13 and Kenny Quist finished with 11 for the Vikings.Marblehead 58, Peabody 43At Marblehead, the Magicians (6-2) ran out to a 32-15 halftime lead and put it on cruise control from there.Damola Abu had 16 points and six rebounds for Marblehead.
