Pines River clam beds closed

State officials this week closed the Pines River mudflats to clam digging until further notice. The Division of Marine Fisheries announced the closing as a precaution against shellfish contamination from sewage flowing along with rainwater into the river. The ban encompasses the area along the river lying between the artificial spit on the river’s Saugus side to Gibson Park in Revere to the Route 107 bridge.
