PEABODY – Police are still investigating the cause of a hit and run accident that occurred early Sunday morning on Route 114 in Peabody.Resident Pauline Kowalski called police at 5:14 a.m. after a neighbor notified her that a recycling truck had crashed into the side of her home at 76 Andover St.”I heard something, but thought it was thunder,” said Kowalski. “I got up and saw there was no rain, no lightning, so I went back to bed.”When Kowalski looked outside again, she saw a truck pressed up against her house with its lights still on.”I didn’t know if the driver was still in there or not,” she said.Officers James Christman and Patrick Conrad were quickly dispatched to the scene.According to the police report, a freightliner truck from Pinto Recycling of 120 Falcon St., East Boston was headed westbound on 114 in Peabody before skidding across the eastbound lanes and over the lawn of 70 Andover St. It continued down its path to Kowalski’s address, where it finally came to an abrupt stop after hitting the side of her home. The driver fled the scene.It took a towing company nearly two and a half hours to remove the truck from the left front side of Kowalski’s home because of its difficult positioning near a stone wall.No bodily injuries were reported, although there’s no telling what condition the driver may be in.Both properties sustained damages to parts of their front lawn and shrubbery, although Kowalski’s home got hit the hardest.According to Kowalski, there’s a large crack down the side of one wall and broken plaster on the floor. Baseboards along the other wall were broken, as well as other structural damage.Peabody Police are currently working to identify the driver and other occupants of the vehicle responsible for the accident.
