REVERE-A city man was charged with a slew of offenses Sunday after he allegedly drove 70 mph drunk down Adams Street and nearly struck police officers with his car, police said.Brian M. Giguere, 25, of 9 Ford St. was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (his car), assault and battery on a police officer, failing to stop for police, malicious destruction of property over $250 and resisting arrest shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday.According to police, officers were handling an unrelated call at the corner of Cooledge and Adams streets in the public housing projects when Giguere’s vehicle drove in their direction at a very high rate of speed.”Officers attempted to alert the driver to stop, but he sped past them,” Revere police spokesperson Capt. Michael Murphy said. “Officers believe that the vehicle was traveling in the 70 mph range.”Police pursued the vehicle and were finally able to stop it on Park Avenue, police said. However, when officers exited their cruisers and approached the suspect, Giguere allegedly sped toward one of the officers, who had to leap out of the car’s path. The side view mirror struck the officer, police said.Giguere then allegedly tried to ram his car at the cruisers and trapped another officer in between the two cars in the process. The officer was not injured. It took several dramatic attempts to get Giguere to surrender, Murphy said.”Officers had to break the vehicles windows in order to extricate Giguere from the vehicle,” he said.Once out of the vehicle, police said Giguere became physically combative. He also refused to take a breathalyzer test.”Officers noted that Giguere displayed many of the classic signs of alcohol intoxication,” Murphy said. “When officers attempted to investigate Giguere’s condition he was uncooperative and verbally abusive.”
