Bowman, 35 and Peter J. Bowman, 37, were arrested for allegedly stealing copper pipes off of a live gas connection at the basement of an abandoned home at 26 Cottage St., police said.In a police report, one of the responding officers on Monday, Patrolman Timothy Magner, wrote that David Bowman “is well known to this officer and the Lynn police as a thief and a drug addict.” Magner reported that police are investigating an incident in which Bowman and his girlfriend were suspiciously selling electronic equipment out of a car one week ago.The trio’s mother also reportedly said to police, “They are robbing the whole neighborhood. They are threatening us and they are doing a lot of bad things.”Police credit watchful neighbors with calling police Tuesday after allegedly observing Jeffrey and Peter leaving the abandoned house with copper pipes. When officers arrived, they noticed a hissing noise and a strong odor of natural gas. The officers immediately called Keyspan and the Lynn Fire Department “to prevent a potential disaster,” according to police.A short time later, police pulled over the car matching the description of the suspect getaway vehicle. Their hands were also blackened and they were covered in dirt, according to police. While the brothers were being transported to the police station, David allegedly said, “Jeff told me to put the pipe from the porch into the car and he would give me half the money.”As police investigated Monday’s snow blower incident, the victim said her son phoned her after he watched David Bowman remove the snow blower from a backyard shed and walk away with it. David previously worked several odd jobs at the victim’s home, police said. The victim said that a few moments after the phone call ended, she drove onto Cottage Street and saw Bowman pushing her snow blower and confronted him.She told Bowman he had 20 minutes to return her snow blower to her home or she would call the police, according to police. After 20 minutes went by and the machine hadn’t been returned, the victim reportedly went to Bowman’s house and spoke with one of his brothers, who “gave her the runaround,” police said. Then she called police.Police arrived to find the victim and Bowman arguing. David Bowman allegedly said the victim said he could borrow it, to which she responded by calling him a “liar” and said she wanted to press charges.Police said the snow blower was eventually returned and was found in the driveway of the victim’s home.David Bowman was charged with being a common and notorious thief, breaking and entering at night to commit a felony, larceny over $250 and trespassing.
