Lynn man arrested for trafficking coke

LYNN-A Lynn man was arrested Sunday night for cocaine trafficking after an undercover operation by Lynn police went successfully.Godofredo Tavarez Jr., 39, of 33 Cottage St., was arrested and charged with trafficking over 28 grams of a class B drug (cocaine) and a drug violation near a school shortly after 8 p.m.Plain-clothed officers arrested Tavarez after they conducted a drug transaction outside 57 Kirtland St., police said.Police allegedly used the seized cell phone of a man who was arrested for drug violations last month to conduct a drug sale with Tavarez.Police seized the phone after the suspect would not disclose the identity of his drug supplier, according to a police report. An officer would later call Tavarez’s phone after looking through the address book and found the listing “jr.” It was the only listing without a seemingly real name, police said.Investigators say drug dealers often use false names and nicknames. After making a few phone calls, the undercover officers arranged to meet with “jr,” later identified as Tavarez, outside his sister’s house at 57 Kirtland St. on Sunday evening.Police later found Tavarez standing in the driveway. Officers discovered 28.8 grams of cocaine in one bag, and one ounce of cocaine in another bag when they searched him, police said. The Google Earth website says 57 Kirtland St. is approximately 425 feet from the Fallon School, according to police.Tavarez was ordered by a Lynn District Court judge held on $40,000 cash bail and is due back in court Jan. 11.
