PEABODY – Thursday?s storm might be over, but with another one coming to the North Shore Sunday, it?s best to be prepared. No one wants to sit in traffic for five hours, nor do they want to have their cars plowed in, or even worse, towed and ticketed for blocking city streets. So, here are some helpful tips from Peabody?s Mayor Michael Bonfanti on how to reduce those inconveniences brought on by the powdery white stuff, as well as keep yourself out of trouble with the law.Shovel your sidewalk within 24 hours of a storm. If you live in Peabody Square, you must do so by law (P.C. Sec. 27-71). The same goes for businesses. If possible, wait until the City plows your street to clear the snow from your driveway entrance. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto a cleared street (P.C. Sec. 27-74).Move your car off the street and into your driveway as soon as you hear of a storm approaching. Keep your cars as close to the end of the driveway to cut your shoveling load in half.Pay special attention and use extra caution when driving around schools. Children tend to walk with their heads down to keep the snow from getting into their eyes.If possible, clear away snow from fire hydrants so that the Fire Department can easily reach them in case of an emergency. If possible, clear an area for children to wait for their school bus.If you are having a snow related problem and need assistance, or notice that a street hasn?t been plowed, call the Department of Public Services at 978-536-0600.
