Woman arrested for carrying firearm into courthouse

SALEM – A Salem woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon a short time after she allegedly tried to bring a gun into Salem Probate Court on Federal Street.Christina Alefantes, 19, of 13 Wall St., was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license and receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number.According to police, Alefantes put a bag on the X-ray which detected a small handgun shortly after 12:30 p.m. Security confiscated the gun but Alefantes somehow managed to roam around the building, police said.After speaking with several witnesses, including a friend of Alefantes’ she was identified as the suspect.After a warrant was sought, Alefantes turned herself into police a short time later.
