PEABODY – If there was a buzz about Peabody on Thursday, it probably had a lot to do with Thanksgiving morning, a cherished football tradition, and one of the greatest running back in Massachusetts history taking the field for the final time in his career.Bishop Fenwick running back Bobby Tarr has put together one of the finest running careers in state history and heading into the Turkey Day game against Austin Prep, Tarr needed just 59 yards to move into second place all-time on rushing yards list for Massachusetts. With 131 consider the mission accomplished. The total brings Tarr to 5,269 yards for his career, placing him behind only Cedric Washington (6,346) on the all- time rushing list in Massachusetts.Tarr also rushed for an additional two touchdowns against the Cougars. Tarr finished the season with a total of 31, and a career total of 70.This season Tarr rushed for 2,544 yards, putting him at back-to-back 2,500 yards seasons. It is not surprising that he essentially owns every single rushing and scoring record at Bishop Fenwick.”I don’t really think it has all hit me just yet,” said Tarr of his accomplishments. “I guess I will look back, but I am really happy I came to this school to play football.””He’s just a really good kid,” said Fenwick coach Dave Woods. “And he works had at what he does.”On Thursday, Tarr was relatively bottled up by the Austin Prep defense. The 131 yards he rushed for is his lowest total of the season. Last year, Tarr torched Austin Prep for 276 yards on Thanksgiving.”He’s a special player,” said Austin Prep coach Bill Maradei. “It might sound weird, but we feel like it was an honor to play against him. He’s really that good and special.”Tarr is undecided on where he will attend school and ply his trade come next fall.”I don’t think all of this has hit me. My last game, my teammates, this all has been a great honor,” said Tarr. With the numbers Tarr has put up in his three varsity years (keep in mind he has only been the full-time starter for two years), he clearly has defined himself as one of the premier running backs in the state and one of the greatest running backs the state has seen grace the gridiron.
