Beverly High’s Greg Pierce had a Thanksgiving to remember. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to lead the Panthers to a 28-14 win over Salem at Bertram Field.In the process, Pierce also broke the school all-time rushing record (1498 yards) held by his former teammate, Pat Bailey. Pierce needed 57 yards to overtake Bailey, who is now at Tufts University, and he finished with 206.Quarterback Mark Theriault put Beverly on the board on a three-yard keeper with Llazar Cuko kicking the extra point. Pierce made it 13-0 on a 40-yard run in the second quarter (Cuko kicked the extra point), but Salem managed to cut the lead in half on a Melikke Van Alstyne two-yard run.Beverly scored the key touchdown in the third quarter when Pierce, who will be going to Bowdoin College, threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Sean Deady. Cuko nailed the kick and Beverly led 21-7. Salem quarterback Colby Boulay trimmed the lead to 28-14 wen the scored on a keeper from inside the one, but the Panthers put the game away in the fourth quarter when Pierce ran one in from six yards out and Cuko kicked the extra point.”I think that score in the third quarter (was the piviotal point),” Bauer said. “We got the ball in the third to start it off and we scored early. It was big for momentum.”Beverly finished the season at 6-5 and Salem at 5-6.”I thought we played our best game of the season,” Bauer said. “It was a good way for the seniors to go out. I thought Salem played very hard. It was a good, physical game.”Salem coach Scott Connolly was pleased with his team despite the loss.”It was a typical Beverly-Salem game,” Connolly said. “It went back and fourth. It was a tough game, but the kids executed well. Pierce had a good game for them.”Gloucester 48, Danvers 7At Gloucester, the Fishermen’s list of things to do is a little shorter today after defeating Danvers Thursday to finish undefeated at 11-0. Gloucester coach Paul Ingram said his team set out to win the Northeastern Conference and go undefeated and did. Now the goal is to win the Division 2 A Super Bowl. The Fishermen play Masconomet in a playoff game Tuesday at Lowell.Andrew Fulford had a pair of touchdowns, one on a four-yard run and the other on a three-yard run, both in the first quarter. Anthony Enderle scored on a 48-yard dash and John Celate kicked his third extra point to put Gloucester up 21-0 after one quarter.The Fishermen also had touchdowns from Taylor Burbine (12-yard reception from Rick Gallant), Brian Harnish (6-yard run, Celata kick); Jared Wright (75-yard kick return, Giacomo Romeo kick) and Ross Carlson (Romeo kick).Danvers scored in the fourth quarter when Greg Ladd connected with Cody Croft for a 22-yard touchdown. Nick Pellino kicked the extra point.”We reached two of our goals,” Ingram said. “Hopefully we’ll win Tuesday and go to Gillette Stadium.”
