SALEM – A Winthrop woman who thought her friend was going into a store to buy cigarettes, but instead stole about $1,000 from a Munroe Street grocery store in 2006 had her case dismissed.Last year, Beth Delaney, 24, who last lived at 29 Townsend St., in Winthrop, agreed to pretrial conditions that she enter and complete a long term drug treatment facility, undergo treatment, consent to random screenings and not use illegal drugs with the understanding if she complied, the charge of being an accessory after the fact of armed robbery would be dropped.Tuesday in Salem Superior Court, Chief Probation Officer Martin Wallace reported to Judge David A. Lowy that Delaney had complied successfully with all the conditions set last November.Lowy congratulated Delaney and wished her good luck as he dismissed the charge against her.Prosecutors charged Delaney with driving a getaway car for her accomplice, Nicholas Carino, 27, who robbed about $1,000 from the store clerk at the Tejada Grocery Store at 132 Munroe St., Lynn at knifepoint on Feb. 23, 2006.A witness who observed Carino jump into the passenger seat of a grayish colored car with a female at the wheel quickly jotted down the license plate number and gave it to police.Police traced the vehicle to Carino?s parents in Stoneham.They were arrested following an investigation.Delaney, who was arrested at a Saugus motel, told police she thought Carino was only going into the store to buy cigarettes, but when he returned to the car with a handful of money, he admitted to the heist and told her to quickly drive away.They then drove to Boston and bought heroin with the stolen money.Carino, of Stoneham, pleaded guilty last winter and is now serving three to seven years in state prison for armed robbery.The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Greg A. Friedholm and Randi Potash was the defense lawyer for Delaney.
