PEABODY-Police cited the driver who struck a pedestrian Sunday night in front of Peabody District Court, police said.Geoffrey Sandler, 54, of 18 Peabody Square, was hit by the car and reportedly suffered head trauma from the accident, which occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m.The driver, Jason DuPont, 33, of 35 Mason St., Peabody, was cited for failing to use care for a pedestrian in a public way, according to Peabody police spokesperson Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto.DuPont was driving his 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix at the intersection of Central and Lowell streets when he apparently came to a stop, then started going again when he hit the pedestrian, Bonaiuto said.Further details of the accident were not available Monday, but preliminary reports indicated the car was traveling approximately 25 mph when Sandler was hit.Sandler was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with head and facial injuries before being transported to another hospital.Peabody police took several photos of the accident scene in the moments after the crash.
