MARBLEHEAD – Veterans Day ceremonies will return to Abbot Hall this year.Last year’s observance was outdoors for the unveiling and dedication of the town monument to the War on Terror, located at Memorial Park.This year the ceremonies will be indoors on Sunday. Abbot Hall will open at 9:30 a.m. and the observance will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the upstairs auditorium.Many Americans will have Monday off, but Marblehead observes the day in the traditional way, harkening back to the cessation of World War I hostilities, which was announced at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The town’s observance usually ends at 11 a.m.Amanda Roeder will lead the Marblehead High chorus and John Collins will play “Taps.”Veterans Agent Dave Rodgers, who plans and schedules the ceremonies each year, will act as master of ceremonies.Selectman William Woodfin will be guest speaker.Woodfin is the son of Benjamin Woodfin, a 50-year town employee and Army veteran of World War II who died last spring.The town’s veterans will be memorialized during the reading of the roll.Rodgers, who also serves as commander of the VFW chapter, described the traditional ceremony as “short but very nice.”
