The Swampscott High boys cross country team followed up a productive weekend in a meet at Vermont’s Thetford Academy with a 15-50 win over Winthrop in the Northeastern Conference action at Swampscott.The Big Blue’s Sierk Vanderburg won the race (15:45), followed by Ilya Smelyansky (16:16); Andrew Keeter (16:20) and Casey Collins (16:29).In the Thetford Academy meet on Saturday, Swampscott’s Sam Rakoc finished eighth out of approximately 750 runners and the team finished sixth out of 54 teams. The Swampscott boys and girls teams have been going to the Vermont meet, which features runners from throughout New England, for six years.Fenwick 18, Lowell Cath. 45Arlington 22, Fenwick 38At Fenwick, the Crusaders improved to 4-2 led by Billy Harrington, who finished second overall (17:35) and John Surabian, fourth overall (18:02).Danvers 18, Salem 39At Salem, the Witches (2-3) had three runners post their best times of the season. Niko Takis-Welch finished third (17:24) on the 2.9-mile course. Steven Levesque took seventh (17:56) and Griffin Phelan placed eighth (17:57). Chris Chapruet of Danvers won with a time of (16:52).Marblehead 15, Saugus 50At Saugus, the Magicians (3-2) took the first 17 spots in the race. Jackson Barber was the overall winner (17:03) with Tyler Smith in second (17:07) and Ben Waller, third (17:13).Xaverian 25, St. John’s 32At Bradley Palmer State Park, the Eagles (2-2) had four runners finish in the top 10 but Xaverian’s depth won out in the end.Mike Masse was first overall in 16:47 and Brian Keiran was third (17:08) with Tim Murtagh in seventh (17:23) and A.J. Rossi, 10th (17:35).Gloucester 18, Beverly 38At Beverly, the Panthers (3-2) had three top 10 finishers. Brad Olson came home fifth (17:22) with Ben Chapman in sixth (18:04) and Brendan Norris, seventh (18:17).Revere 15, English 49At Revere, James Bell, who finished seventh with a 20 minutes even, was the Bulldogs’ top performer.GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYSwampscott 17, Winthrop 45At Swampscott, the Big Blue improved to 5-0 with strong performances by Lindsay Walsh, who finished first (18:36); Kelly Walton, second (18:52); Amelia Antrim, third (18:55) and Bregan Houlihan, fifth (20:18).The Big Blue was also impressive in Saturday’s meet at Thetford Academy in Thetford, Vt. Walsh, a sophomore, took fourth out of about 500 runners. She finished the 3.25-mile course with a time of 20:40.Fenwick 18, Lowell Cath. 41Arlington 23, Fenwick 36At Fenwick, the Crusaders’ Ali Trainor finished first overall with a time of 21:21 and teammate Ashley Banks took fourth (21:53). Salem’s Nicole Maurice was sixth (20:17) and Syeda Raji finished eighth (20:29). Salem is 3-2.Marblehead 16, Saugus 46At Saugus, the Magicians (4-1) got a big win, sweeping the top four spots. Bridget Forbes finished first (21:03) with Katie Herlihy in second (21:21); Alex Gerard, third (21:31) and Claire DePew, fourth (21:37).Beverly 17, Gloucester 46At Beverly, the Panthers (5-0) took 13 of the top 14 places. Kelly O’Connor broke the Beverly course record with a time of 19:00 to take first place.Kasey Kluge was second (19:42) with Monica Adler, third (19:55) and Millie Chapman, fifth (20:20).Revere 14, English 48At Revere, English had two girls in the top 10: Bianca Fowler (seventh, 24:33) and Nina Barane (eight, 24:39).
