LEXINGTON – The Tigers of Lynn Tech were ready to pounce out of the gates on Saturday, and they never looked back.A strong first quarter was the key for Lynn Tech, which blanked Minuteman, 36-0, in Lexington. With the victory, Tech’s record improves to 3-0, while Minuteman remains winless at 0-5.Lynn Tech coach Gary Sverker was pleased with the effort by his defense, which forced the Mustangs into six turnovers.”We had good pressure up front,” Sverker said. “Everyone was where they were supposed to be. We have good athletes, and they made the plays.”The contest was decided very quickly for Tech, which wasted no time in building a lead. On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Jose Rios connected on a 52-yard pass to receiver Jake Canty for a touchdown pass. John Jones ran for the conversion, and Tech held an 8-0 advantage just 12 seconds into the game.It wouldn’t be long before the lead would grow for the Tigers ? two plays, in fact. Jones intercepted a pass by Mustang quarterback Anthony DeAngelis, and returned it 24 yards for another Tigers score. Otis Green added the conversion, and Tech took a 16-0 lead.Minuteman’s misfortune continued on the next series. The Mustangs managed to pick up a first down, but the success was short-lived. DeAngelis was intercepted again, this time by Moses Valentin. The Tiger offense kept the ball on the ground on the ensuing possession, but the results were the same. After just four plays, Erichson Seang rushed in for a 1-yard touchdown, giving his team a 22-0 edge, which they would hold until halftime. After the game, Sverker was pleased with how his team performed out of the gates.”We executed very well on both offense and defense early,” Sverker said. “We scored a touchdown on defense, which is big. Our special teams played well, too.”After halftime, Tech used its running game to drain the clock. The Tigers threw just one pass in the second half, while rushing eleven times. With just over five minutes to play, Rios found Stefon Carter for a 17-yard pass, bringing Tech to the Minuteman 15-yard line. Two plays later, Rios added to the Tiger lead with a 6-yard touchdown rush, pushing the score to 30-0.The Tigers added a final score on the last play of the game. Romario Bazile broke free for a 76-yard run as time expired, ending the scoring and the game for a 36-0 Tiger victory. When the smoke cleared, Minuteman coach Jon Lesage credited the Tigers’ strong performance.”Lynn Tech is strong, aggressive, and played well,” Lesage said. “We had lots of problems. But we had a lot of young guys playing, and there’s a learning process there.”With his team off to a strong start, Sverker is already looking ahead to next week.”We’re going to be tested next week against Northeast,” Sverker said. “We’ll enjoy today right now. But then we’re going to get ready for Northeast on Saturday.”
