Hockey Roundup: Peabody boys stop Arlington

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Peabody’s boys hockey team held off a late rush to upset Arlington, 2-1.The third line of Matt Rodgers, Andrew Bucci and A.J. Parker provided what proved to be the game-winning goal. Ken Brownlee cashed in with the first goal. Elijah Cohen and James Noftle picked up assists.Max Karas turned away 23 shots. Randy Popp had a standout performance manning the blue line.Gloucester 4, Saugus 3At Saugus, Mike Scuzzarella scored a pair of goals for the Sachems (4-11-2). Tyler Calla scored Saugus’ other goal. Zak Borowski scored a goal and an assist for the Fishermen (11-2-3). Paul Essery turned away 24 shots.Marblehead 4, Salem 3At Rockett Arena, Marc Amoroso scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the Magicians. Eric Fader and Dean Thorne scored the other goals. Ben Hayden provided the Witches (9-7) with two goals. Dan Libby scored the other goal.Beverly 1, Danvers 1At Rockett Arena, Chris Freni scored the game-tying goal in the second period for the Panthers (7-4-4), who sit only two points out of the tournament. Eric Little scored the first Tech goal with Brian Provost getting the assist. Brendan Hambleton and A.J. Zarinsky each had two goals for the Big Blue with Ben Wollerscheid and Keith Morgan adding single tallies. Ryan Duggan, Mark Pustorino and Brendan Slepoy scored for the Rams. Eric Noel was good for two assists.St. John’s 2, Central Cath. 2At Merrimack College, Colin Prior scored on a wraparound with 1:32 remaining to help the Prep salvage a tie against the Raiders. Central Catholic’s Paul Jaskot, the leading scorer in the state, put the Raiders on the board first, but Mike Keenan tied things up with an unassisted goal in the second period. Central Catholic went up 2-1 with Prior saving the day for the Eagles (8-2-5).
