Head coach Steve Lopez earned his first win at the helm of the Tigers as Tech went up against a very evenly-matched team in PMA and coming out with a 3-1 win. Tech won each of its sets, 25-23, and also lost one by the same score.
“It feels great (to get that first win),” said Lopez. “Everybody played great. We even used some JV players. It was just fantastic.
Lopez said that the team put in some work before the match and tried a new drill, and used some of what they learned in the game.
“It really paid off,” Lopez said.
The Tigers (1-14) will look to keep the momentum going Wednesday against Northeast on senior night.
St. Mary’s 3, Cathedral 1
On senior night, St. Mary’s took down Cathedral in four sets, 25-10, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-18. Senior Brianna Lozzi turned in a strong performance with nice aces, while Amanda Idusuyi (six kills) and Ivanna Nunez (17 digs) also contributed to the win.
“I thought we had great energy tonight, with it being senior night,” St. Mary’s coach Erin Menard said. “I thought we came ready to play. I couldn’t be prouder of our seniors.”
St. Mary’s is back in action on Wednesday when the Spartans visit Cardinal Spellman.
Classical 3, Beverly 1
Classical won in four sets, 25-12, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-18. Pamela Dias (13 service points, four aces), Emily Silva (11 service points, three aces), Amanda Thoeun (10 service points) and Skylar Crayton (seven kills) each contributed to the winning effort. Classical (7-7) also received a strong performance from Soneta Srey (12 digs, five assists). The Rams will host Peabody on Wednesday.
Peabody 3, Lynn English 0
Peabody coach Lisa Keene earned her 200th win with the Tanners volleyball program as Peabody (12-1) breezed through a three-setter, 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 on Monday afternoon. Serena Laro led the offensive charge with six kills, while Bianca Chenard notched four kills and two aces. Martyna Kot recorded seven aces, while Rachel Coleman had 12 assists.
Peabody will travel to Lynn Classical to face off against the Rams tomorrow afternoon.
Marblehead 3, Salem 0
Jenny Norcross had six kills and Eve Rice and Emma Bushman each chipped in with five, and Reilly O’Grady finished the night with 18 assists. Mandy Dumais was strong on defense for Marblehead, especially on the serve-receive.
