The Classical boys and girls tennis teams both topped rival English Wednesday, with the boys winning 4-1 and the girls edging the Bulldogs, 3-2.
For the boys, the Rams improved to 9-2 on the year. Calvin Cheung got the win in first singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Moses Ba took second singles, 6-2, 6-3. Classical also swept the doubles portion of the match, with the team of Jonathan Chase and Andy Ma winning its match, 6-3, 6-1, and the team of Stephen Ong and Daniel Kazimierczyk taking its match, 7-6, 6-2.
The Rams will play Revere this afternoon.
On the girls side, Classical took two singles wins and a doubles win. Lizzie Troisi battled for a three-set win in first singles, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0, and Fereshtah Tajiki got the win in second singles, 6-1, 6-3. The doubles team of Daphne Pineda and Shanelle Barry also won its match, 6-3, 6-0.
The girls team (7-2) will also take on Revere this afternoon, still needing two more wins for a state tournament bid.
BOYS TENNIS
Bishop Fenwick 5, Arlington Catholic 0
Alex Mizioch got the win in first singles for Fenwick, 10-7, while Greg Mattucci took second singles, 10-6, and Pat McShea took third singles, 10-5. In doubles play, the team of Noah Anderson and Peter O’Brien swept its match, 10-0. The team of Regan Zhu and Sean Loesher also swept its match, 10-0. The Crusaders are now 6-7 on the year.
Swampscott 5, Danvers 0
The Big Blue got singles wins from Sam Mayblyum (6-3, 1-6, 10-4), Will Talebian (6-1, 6-1) and Dan Popovskiy (6-1, 6-3). The doubles wins came from the team of Owen Madigan-Fried and Steve Santanello (6-3, 6-1) and the team of Dan Johnson and Justin Ratner (6-0, 6-1).
Swampscott (9-2) will take on Gloucester this afternoon.
Lowell Catholic 4, St. Mary’s 1
The lone win for St. Mary’s came from Brady Ryan in first singles, 6-0, 6-2. The Spartans will play a road match against St. Joseph’s on Friday.
St. John’s Prep 4, Concord-Carlisle 1
The Eagles qualified for the state tournament with a win Wednesday. Nick Salacci (6-2, 6-4) and Mikey Prokopis (6-2, 6-3) won for St. John’s Prep in singles. The team of Ama Raisinghani and David Cunningham (6-3, 6-2) and the team of Jack Malowepszy and Jason Xu (6-4, 6-3) won in doubles as the Eagles improved to 10-4.
Marblehead 5, Malden 0
Justin Faia took the first singles match for the Magicians, 6-1, 6-0, while Billy Ackerman won second singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Tony Gluskin won third singles, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, the team of Luke Fobert and Adam Sherf took the first match, 6-0, 6-1, and the team of Harry Dolin and Mason Friedman won the second match, 6-1, 6-0.
GIRLS TENNIS

Fenwick got wins from Kerry Kircher in first singles, 8-0, Taylor Botthof in second singles, 8-0, and Brenna Waldinger in third singles, 8-0. In doubles play, the team of Niamh Walsh and Sarah Blessington won its match, 8-5, and the team of Tiana Iuliano and Faith Harding won its match, 8-3.
With the win, the Crusaders (11-6) secured a spot in the state tournament.
Danvers 5, Swampscott 0
The Big Blue (7-5) will take on Peabody on Friday.
Lynnfield 3, Newburyport 2
The Pioneers needed to sweep the singles portion of the match to earn a win on Wednesday. Sarah Mezini got the win in first singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Camie Foley took second singles, 6-4, 6-3, and Katie Nevils won the third singles match, 7-6, 6-0.
Lynnfield (12-1) will take on North Andover this afternoon.
Marblehead 5, Malden 0
Marblehead winners were Michelle Shub in first singles, 6-0, 6-0, Hannah Porath in second singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Julia Channing in third singles, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles play, the team of Megan Ryan and Lily Frontero took its match, 6-0, 6-1, and the team of Kailyn Attridge and Simone Likterov won its match, 6-2, 6-0.
The Magicians (17-0) put their undefeated record on the line once again when they host Manchester-Essex this afternoon at Seaside Park.
