The St. Mary’s Spartans girls’ hockey team got back to .500 with a 3-1 win over Arlington at the Hingham showcase on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Katie Terban notched a goal and an assist, while junior Adara Nazarian and sophomore Natalie Mellen each scored one goal. Junior Sarah Ryan had two assists, while seniors Vanessa VanBuskirk and Maggie Flaherty each had one assist for the Spartans (8-8-3).
Junior goalie Emily Stephenson had 25 saves in the win.
“We’ve been off for 10 or 11 days, so it took us a while to get going,” said St. Mary’s coach Frank Pagliuca. “But once we were able to get our feet underneath us, we were really able to make some things happen out there.”
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 58, Concord-Carlisle 23
The Crusaders grabbed a big win in the semifinals of the Ed Gerais Memorial Tournament at Danvers High on Tuesday. With the win, Fenwick moves on to face Danvers in the championship game on Wednesday.
Fredi DeGuglielmo was Fenwick’s leading scorer with 16 points and four steals. Sydney Brennan had 12 points and five steals, Colleen Corcoran had seven points and nine rebounds and Jaxson Nadeau had six points and five steals.
Marblehead 60, Pope John 53
The Magicians improved to 12-5 on the season with a win over Pope John. Junior forward Abby Settlemeyer led Marblehead with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while junior forward Lindsay Walker added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Magicians.
Danvers 55, Reading 45
The Falcons notched a solid home win over Reading in the Ed Gieras Memorial Tournament, and will face Bishop Fenwick tonight in the championship game.
Hamilton-Wenham 51, Beverly 47
Despite holding a 37-32 lead to begin the fourth quarter, the Panthers fell to Hamilton-Wenham in the final round of the Patton Tournament.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Salem 70, Swampscott 45
The Witches improved to 18-1 on the season with a win on the road against Swampscott. Ricky Arias was the high scorer for Salem with 14 points and six rebounds. Joel Nunez chipped in 11 points, while Jhonel Roberts had 10 points and six rebounds.
“It was a good win tonight, we were able to jump out early and sustain the momentum,” said Salem coach Tom Doyle. “We also had 11 guys score for us tonight, so we had a really well-balanced attack on offense tonight.”
For Swampscott, Nick Scibelli and Jack Porter each recorded 12 points and seven rebounds. The Big Blue finish up the season at 1-19.
Lynn Tech 70, Whittier 52
The Tigers (4-15) cruised to a double-digit victory Tuesday night over Whittier, fueled by senior guard Michael Anaya’s 28 points. Senior guard Arlin Reynoso added 10 points and five assists for Tech, while teammate Justin Lewis registered a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Hamilton-Wenham 62, Marblehead 55
Senior Ted Bostley led the Magicians (6-11) with 14 points, while junior guard Patrick Bugler added 13 points for Marblehead.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
Beverly 2, Lexington 2
After trailing, 2-0, in the first period, the Panthers (14-5-1) evened the score during the second period before both teams went scoreless throughout the third.
Winchester 11, Marblehead 0
The Magicians dropped their first game of the Newburyport Bank Ice Hockey Classic at Henry Graf Skating Park in Newburyport. Marblehead goalie Sarah Ryan faced 33 shots.
