The Peabody volleyball team improved to 6-1 after a close 3-2 win over North Reading on Monday, winning 25-20, 11-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-10. Hannah Kemp had a big day to lead the way for the Tanners, notching 14 assists with four kills. Melissa Gray had eight kills, while Serena Laro and Lexie Zammer each had seven kills.
The Tanners will face off against Salem at home this afternoon.
Marblehead 3, Beverly 0
The Magicians came out on top in a tough match against Beverly to remain undefeated at 7-0. Marblehead fought to win the first set 26-24 before taking the next two sets 25-14, 25-14. Jenny Norcross led the offensive charge with eight kills, while Reilly O’Grady notched 15 assists.
The Magicians will play against Lynn Classical on Thursday night.
Whittier Tech 3, Lynn Tech 0
The Tigers (0-7) dropped their match in straight sets, 20-25,14-25, 16-25. Shyla Jackson played well for Tech in the loss.
Tech will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a trip to Presentation of Mary Academy.
GIRLS SOCCER
Bishop Fenwick 5, Austin Prep 0
The Crusaders improved to 4-1-1 on the year with a solid shutout at home on Monday afternoon. Abbey Rocker led the way with two goals for Fenwick, while Ally Charette, Grace Foley and Rachel Cambria each scored one goal. Goalkeeper Jessie Silvagni notched the shutout in net with seven saves.
The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Archbishop Williams.
Peabody 7, Revere 0
Jillian Arigo, Emily Nelson and Marissa Orlando each had a goal and an assist in the win for the Tanners (5-0-1). Erin Melin, Chloe Gizzi and Kirsten Bradley each scored one goal, while Catherine Manning and Deanna Ruggierio each had one assist.
Swampscott 0, Marblehead 0
It was a battle of the goalkeepers on Monday afternoon in Swampscott, with the Big Blue’s Nikki Rosa and Marblehead’s Kelly Morrison each notching seven saves in the draw.
Saugus 6, Winthrop 1
Alivia Burke and Allie Kotkowski each scored two goals for the Sachems to pace the offense. Olivia Valente scored a goal and Kiley Ronan scored her first career high school goal for Saugus.
The Sachems have a few days off before hosting Lynn Classical on Friday afternoon.
BOYS SOCCER
Revere 6, Peabody 3
Senior captain Mark Couto scored all three goals for the Tanners (1-4-1) in the loss. Peabody will host Swampscott on Wednesday.
Archbishop Williams 1, St. Mary’s 0
St. Mary’s fell to 5-2 with the loss, but it wasn’t without a great team effort. Chris Garcia played a great game up front, while Thiago DeOliviera played well in the midfield. Christian Couillard and Ryan Ramsey both played well on defense.
The Spartans will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon on the road at Cardinal Spellman.
Swampscott 1, Marblehead 0
Max Carbone scored the lone goal of the game on an assist from Jack Dennehy to give the Big Blue the win. With the victory, Swampscott is now 6-1 with a home game against Peabody tomorrow afternoon.
GOLF
St. Mary’s 193, Matignon 150
St. Mary’s put on another solid team display on Monday at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course to improve to 8-2. Kitchy Emmerich was the leader in the clubhouse on the afternoon, notching 36 points. Luke Smith was right behind with 34 points, while Max Emmerich had 32 points and Andrew Kreamer had 30 points. Chris Fioravanti contributed 24 points, while Nick Cicolini put up 19 points in the win.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround with a home match against Arlington Catholic at Gannon Golf Course this afternoon.
Lynn Classical 59, Lynn English 13
Classical evened out its record on Monday at Gannon Golf Course, led by the strong play of Travis Ryan, Brendan Lannon and Sean Dean at the top of the lineup. Brett Bucklin and Ryan Clark also played strong matches at the bottom of the lineup.
Classical will travel to Kernwood Country Club to face off against Swampscott tomorrow afternoon.
