The Lynn Classical golf team improved to 1-1 on the year after a solid win, 46-26, over Peabody at Gannon Golf Course on Monday. Steve Patrie led the way in the No. 1 spot with a win, 6 1/2-1 1/2. Mike Tarasuik won his match five and four, while Travis Ryan took his match 8-1. Jake Hickenbottom won his match 7 1/2-1 1/2, Ryan Clark won his match 6-3 and Nick Lilja won his match 5 1/2-3 1/2. The Rams will be right back in action this afternoon when they travel to Myopia Hunt Club to take on Hamilton-Wenham.
For Peabody (0-3), Andrew Hamel won his match 5-4 and Connor McCarron won his match 5 1/2-3 1/2. The Tanners will play Wednesday against Swampscott at The Meadow at Peabody.
St. Mary’s 181, Cardinal Spellman 125
It was the Emmerich brothers at the top of the leaderboard for the Spartans on Monday, with Max Emmerich leading the way with 34 points. Benny Emmerich was right behind with 30 points, while Kitchy Emmerich had 29 points. Chris Fioravanti had 26 points, Luke Smith had 25 points, Aedan Leydon had 22 points and Nick Cicolini had 17 points. St. Mary’s (3-0) is right back on the links today to take on Austin Prep at Gannon.
Swampscott 38 1/2, Gloucester 33 1/2
The Big Blue earned a win at Tedesco Country Club Monday thanks mostly to the work of the bottom half of the lineup. After No. 1 golfer Andrew Dove won his match 6-3, Swampscott dropped the next two matches. But then, the Big Blue got three straight wins from No. 4 Mike Johnson (8-1), No. 5 Ryan Graciale (6-3) and No. 6 Max Pegnato (6 1/2-2 1/2).
“It was really the bottom of our lineup that won it for us today,” said Swampscott golf coach Jason Knowles.
Saugus 38, Marblehead 34
Saugus (3-0) is still undefeated after notching a close win over Marblehead. Joe Ghika got a win in the No. 1 spot for the Sachems, winning 8 1/2-1/2. Brandon Neumann won his match 7-2, Dan Robbins won 6-3 and Alex Riccardelli tied his match 4 1/2-4 1/2.
Winthrop 36 1/2, Salem 35 1/2
The Witches dropped their first match of the season on Monday. Tommy Harrington won his match for Salem 6 1/2-1 1/2, Wes Schaejbe won his match 5-4 and Andrew McRae took his match 5 1/2-3 1/2.
VOLLEYBALL
St. Mary’s 3, St. Clement 2
The Spartans battled back from two sets down to improve to 2-1 on Monday afternoon. After dropping the first two sets, 13-25, 15-25, the Spartans dug deep and rattled off set wins of 25-14, 25-18 and 15-6 in the final tiebreaker set.
“We really got the momentum going after that third set,” said St. Mary’s coach Erin Menard. “The girls got off to a bit of a slow start, but the way they rallied was great. You can’t ask for much more than that.”
Senior Amanda Idusuyi led the way with 19 kills and three blocks, while fellow senior Ivanna Nunez had 15 service points and six aces. Sophomore Grace Fielding also had a strong match, notching eight service points, three aces and three kills.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Danvers 0
The Crusaders (3-0) took their match in straight sets on Monday, winning 25-16, 25-18, 25-19. Senior captain Molly Camelo had 12 kills, while Steph Bona had 10 kills, Sam Mancinelli had 21 assists and Julia Fusco had 19 digs. Junior Jennie Meagher had seven kills and five blocks. Camille Tache and Joie Dillon both played well on defense in the win. The Crusaders will face off against Cardinal Spellman at home this afternoon.
FIELD HOCKEY
Chelmsford 4, Bishop Fenwick 1
Grace Harris scored the lone goal for the Crusaders (0-2-1). Fenwick will look for its first win this afternoon against Gloucester at home.
