It was a special night for the Winthrop/Lynn girls hockey team, as the Bulldogs topped Medford, 7-0, at Larsen Rink.
Abby Carleton and Kayla Morrill scored their first career goals for Lynn/Winthrop, but the night belonged to senior goalie Gretchen Howard, who notched her 18th career shutout, breaking the team record previously held by Boston College’s Katie Burt. Howard made 13 saves in the contest.
“She (Howard) was great,” Lynn/Winthrop coach Anthony Martucci said. “She didn’t have to make too, too many saves. She had 13 tonight. She’s been the backbone of our team for the last two years.”
Sydney Adamson scored two goals while McKayla Norris added a goal and an assist in the winning effort. Lynn/Winthrop (5-2) will look to stay on the win column when the team hosts Marblehead on Saturday. “We know they always play us tough,” Martucci said of the Magicians. “They’re a good team. We’re hoping to have another strong game and we’re looking for another win.”
