The Marblehead boys basketball team continues to impress this season, taking down a strong Peabody team, 75-56, at home on Tuesday night. Derek Marino had an impressive night with 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, Patrick Bugler had 16 points and seven assists and Bo Millett had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Marblehead coach Mike Giardi was pleased with the way his team, rebounded in this one, especially since they were shorthanded coming in.
“We have a couple guys who are sick and a couple more who are banged up right now, so we really needed Derek and Bo to step up at the forward spot,” Giardi said. “They did that and then some tonight.”
Giardi is also happy with where the Magicians (11-2) are this year, but knows there’s still a long way to go.
“We have quite a stretch coming up here against mostly NEC opponents, so we’re in for a big test,” he said. “It starts on Friday with Salem, so we need to be ready.”
Marblehead will host the Witches on Friday night.
For the Tanners (9-3), Jake Irvine and Moise Irizarry each scored 16 points in the loss.
“I thought for the most part we played well and competed hard, but in the end it came down to making shots, and we struggled offensively tonight,” said Peabody coach Thad Broughton.
Peabody will try to rebound with a road game against Lynn English on Friday.
