After sweeping the doubles early, the Lynnfield girls tennis team needed one win from their singles to secure the match against Pentucket on Wednesday. They got it from No. 1 Olivia Skelley, and won, 3-2, in a tight match. Skelley took her match, 6-1, 7-5. In doubles action, the first team of Alison Carey and Hayley Timmons won, 6-2, 6-2, and the second team of Mariana Theophiles and Nicole Davie won, 6-1, 6-4.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 4, Lynn Classical 1
The Magicians got several wins from freshmen on Wednesday, led by David Grenader in second singles, 6-2, 6-3. Jack Quigley took third singles, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 over Moses Ba.
In doubles play, the freshman duo of Harry Dolin and Tony Gluskin won the first match, 6-1, 6-2, and the team of freshman Adam Sherf and senior exchange student Guilio Angius won, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
Junior Calvin Cheung secured the Rams (4-3) lone point with his sixth consecutive victory at first singles (6-2, 6-1).
Winthrop 5, Peabody 0
The Winthrop Vikings continue their strong play with a commanding win over Peabody moving their season record to (4-0). On a team where there is six starting seniors and eight total, the Vikings have the potential for a dominant season. Winthrop earned three singles match victories Wednesday morning from Noah Hodgkins who won his match with ease winning 6-0, 6-0, Mike Norris who won 6-1, 6-0, and Jake Lafratta winning his match 6-0, 6-0. The Vikings also had a doubles victory from Robby Miles and Matt Sennott who didn’t lose a point winning 6-0, 6-0.
Winthrop 5, Malden Catholic 0
It was a double-header for the Winthrop Vikings (5-0) on Wednesday, but that didn’t slow them down winning their second match of the day and continuing their undefeated season.
The Vikings made quick work out of Malden Catholic, led by a team where the seniors are in impressive form. “I’ve watched them grow together over the years and now it shows,” says Winthrop coach Marie Finn. In the second match of the day, the Vikings got singles wins from Noah Hodgkins who scored his second double bagel of the day winning 6-0, 6-0, Mike Norris followed suit winning his match 6-4, 6-1, and Jake Lafratta closed out the singles with a winning score of 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Robby Miles and Matt Sennott won with authority with a score of 6-1, 6-0 and Cory Cherico and James Forfter won their match 6-4, 6-1.
BOYS LACROSSE
Swampscott 15, Salem 6
Playing against a struggling Salem team, Swampscott took advantage winning their fourth game of the season and bringing their record to (4-3).
Andrew Dove scored three goals and had three assists Wednesday afternoon for the Fishermen, while teammate Tim Perlin had a sound defensive game in goal with 16 saves.
For Salem (3-4), Eamon Williamson scored half of the Witches goals with three of his own, Andrew Macmillan scored two goals with an assist, and Pedro Sanchez had a goal of his own.
Peabody 5, North Reading 4
The Tanners picked up the ever elusive first win of the season, holding the host Hornets to a single goal over the second half.
Peabody (1-4) had goals from five different players in the victory: Cam Cordero, Steve Ell, Frank Falco, Devin Hennessey and John Villani. Tanners goaltender Jake DeStefano finished with 17 saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Salem 10, Revere 6
It was a close contest Wednesday, but the Salem Witches now (4-1) continued their hot streak, winning their fourth game in a row after dropping the first game of the season.
Leading scorer for the Witches was Brianna Valido with three goals, while teammates Camryn Connolly and Nicole Sadoway each scored two goals apiece with Connolly adding three assists. Jessica Jellison, Rebecca Cormier and Angela Berry each scored a goal in the contest.
