Bishop Fenwick’s football team improved to 3-0 Friday night with a 21-6 win over Pentucket at Donaldson Field.
The Crusaders got an all-around gem of a game from sophomore quarterback Cory Bright, who rushed for 127 yards on 13 carries, and scored runs of 19 and eight yards.
Bright also passed for 126 yards, going 8-for-14, and threw a scoring pass to Colin Norton.
“He was our quarterback as a freshman last year,” said coach Dave Woods. “He’s had a good year under his belt, and he’s been looking great so far this year.”
Fenwick travels to Archbishop Williams next week.
Lynnfield 21 Amesbury 14
At Landry Stadium in Amesbury, the Pioneers (1-2) picked up their first win of the season. Quarterback Matt Mortellite was 10-for-18 for 151 yards and two TDs.
Anthony Murphy rushed for 50 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown.
Lynnfield sealed the win with an interception in the end zone by Peter Look.
Lynnfield led 7-0 after the first quarter and 14-6 at the half.
Jason Ndansi (first quarter) and Kyle Hawes (third quarter) hauled down TD receptions.
FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 1, Saugus 0
At Marblehead, the Magicians moved to 8-0 on the strength of Mariah Elder’s goal. Hadley Carlton had the assist.
Coach Linda Rice said the front line of Caroline Driscoll and Crickett Tompkins played well, as did defensewomen Alex Carlton and Katie Picariello.
Fenwick 3, Everett 0
At Everett, Fenwick (3-4-1) crept closer to .500 as Stefanie Libby scored two goals. Grace Harris had the other, along with an assist. Allie Giguere also had an assist.
Coach Marybeth Mahoney said Maggie O’Connor had a good game defensively as did Caitlin Dwyer.
Swampscott 0, Danvers 0
At Swampscott, both teams took turns carrying the play, Danvers in the first half and Swampscott in the second.
Still, “it’s frustrating,” said Swampscott coach Jamie Spano about her team’s 1-0-5 overall record.
Spano said the defensive pair of Mary Miles and Sarah Ryan kept the Big Blue in the game during the first half.
Swampscott is home Tuesday against Saugus.
Pentucket 2, Peabody 0
At Peabody, Peabody 1-5-1, got good games from Mallory LeBlanc and gianna Denisco, but couldn’t solve the Sachems.
Pentucket scored in the first half to go up 1-0, and then cemented the win with a goal with two minutes left in the game.
LeBlanc had several opportunities to score on corner plays, said coach Pam Chae Grant. The coach said Sofia Rodriguez had an excellent game in goal.
VOLLEYBALL
Winthrop 3, Classical 0
At Classical, the Vikings took the three games with scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-19.
Alytah Noum led the Rams with six service points while Emily Silva had four service points.
Skylar Crayton had six kills and a block, while Maggie McHale had three kills two assists and a block.
Lizzie Troisi led the Rams with four assists. Emma DeJoie had eight digs and Noum added five digs.
The loss dropped Classical’s record to 4-4. The Rams’ next game is Tuesday at Saugus (5)
Andover 3, Fenwick 0
At Andover, the scores were 25-16, 25-18, 25-18. Steph Bona had 13 digs for the Crusaders while Molly Camelo had five kills and three blocks, and Sam Mancinelli had 15 assists.
Fenwick is now 6-2.
Marblehead 3, Revere 0
At Marblehead, the Magicians rolled to wins of 25-6, 25-17, 25-22.
Jenny Norcross had 17 kills on 21 attempts and Eve Rice added in another six kills and three blocks.
Reilly O’Grady had 11 assists for the Magicians, who improved to 6-0. They face Beverly Monday.
Peabody 3, Swampscott 2
At Swampscott, The Tanners, 5-1, rallied from a 2-1 deficit. After the teams split the first two sets, 25-18 and 18-25, the Big Blue took the third, 24-26.
However, Peabody, thanks to Melissa Gray (nine kills, nine aces, two blocks), Hannah Kemp (21 assists), Rachel Coleman (21 service points) and Serena Laro (five kills, two blocks) closed it out by winning the final two sets 25-15 and 15-10.
