Two nights after being forced into overtime before vanquishing English, the Lynn Classical girls basketball team coasted to a 54-22 win over Malden to raise its record to 5-3.
The Rams led from stem to stern in this one, with Soneta Srey picking up the double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Paris Wilkey led all scorers with 20 points while Olivia Pedro had six.
Irianis Delgado had 12 rebounds to go along with her six points.
The Rams led 9-2 after a quarter but outscored the Golden Torandos 20-10 in the second to take a 29-12 lead at the half.
Classical is back in action tonight at Winthrop.
BOYS TRACK
Marblehead 66, Gloucester 15
At Marblehead, the Magicians moved to 3-0 in the Northeastern Conference/Small and 4-0 overall. The Magicians had one double-winner, Thomas Huber in the high jump (5-4) and 55 hurdles (8.2).
Other Marblehead winners were Ryan Dumais, shotput (42-½), Jaason Lopez, 55-meter dash (6.5), Joe Cronin, 300 (39.9), Zach Phelan, 600 (1:34.5), Grant Adam, 2-mile (11:59.0).
For Gloucester, Chris MacDonald won the 1,000 (2:58.6) and Kyle Manley the mile (4:45.9).
There were no relays run.
Peabody 47, Beverly 39
At Peabody, the Tanners won their fourth meet of the season overall, and moved to 3-0 in the Northeastern Conference/Large.
Winner for Peabody were Eric DeMayo, shot put (50-3), Ramon Medrano, 50 hurdles (7.2), Aimsaday Quiljano, 50 dash (5.7), Joseph Farhat, 1,000 (2:54.1), William Aylward, mile (5:01.6) and Shane Braz, 2-mile (11:07).
For Beverly, Sam Abate won the high jump with a 5-6, Kevin Flaherty took the 300 (40.4) and John Jones the 600 (1:32.3).
Beverly also won the 4×400 relay in 4:01.2.
GIRLS TRACK
Marblehead 58, Gloucester 28
At Marblehead, the Magicians moved to 3-0 in the NEC/Small and 4-0 overall.
Winners for the Magicians were Chloe Ferrucci, shot put (31-6), Clara Pollard, 55 hurdles (9.3), Gabriella Mark, 55 dash (7.8), Ana Hecht, 1,000 (3.25.5) and Mia Forster, 2-mile (13:13.7).
Marblehead also won the 4×400 relay by one second (4:46 to 4:47).
Gloucester’s winners were Sierra Rudolph, high jump (5-4), Leah Rudolph, 600 (1:51.1) and Carly Curcuru, mile (5:46.4).
Beverly 46, Peabody 40
At Peabody, the meet came down to the 4×400 relays, with the Panthers (4-0 overall, 3-0 in the NEC/Large) winning by four seconds (4:21.8 to 4:25.8).
Other Beverly winners were Tyler Orlandella, high jump (5-0), Gracie Sparkman, shot put (35-2½), Grace Byrd, 50 dash (6.4), India Ingemi, 300 (44.2), Abby Walsh, 1,000 (3:03.7), and Lexi Sutyak, mile (5:37.4).
Peabody’s Gabrielle Morton took the 50 hurdles in 8.0, Emily Nelson the 600 (1:47.1), and Jessica Ostrowski the 2-mile (12:58.2).
SWIMMING
Beverly 98 English 76
At Lynn Tech, English took second in the 200 medley relay with a team of Caroline Zuffante, Peter Phelan, Amanda Fabrizio and Kylie Moorehouse; second in the 200 free relay with Dax Billingsley, Emma Trahant, Moorehouse and Shanel Turransky; and third in the 400 free relay with Fabrizio, Trahant, Zuffante and Phelan.
Other highlights for English were Phelan’s second in the 200 IM, Fabrizio’s second in the 100 fly, Turransky’s second in the 100 backstroke, a second (Devin Curley) and third (Billingsley) in the 100 breaststroke.
Peabody 99, Salem 80
Tanners who won events include Bella Forte (diving), Conor McCarthy (100- and 200-yard freestyles), Cana Teague (100-yard butterfly), Kirsten Currie (500-yard freestyle), Nicholas Fursey (100-yard backstroke), Michaelena Teague (100-yard breaststroke), and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kirsten Currie, Nicole O’Neill, and Cana and Michaelena Teague.
“This was a great meet for both teams. The advantage went back and forth across many events, and it was a real nail-biter to the end,” said Peabody coach Maureen Shea. “It was a great night for our athletes to dig deep yet again and achieve a win.”
The Tanners next will meet Marblehead at the Lynch van Otterloo YMCA on Tuesday, January 10th.
