In a high scoring contest, the Lowell Red Raiders were able to pull out a victory over the Salem Witches, 75-69, at home on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Witches move to (18-2) on the season.
Alex Sanchez scored 18 points with six rebounds and six assists for Salem. Joel Nunez scored 17 points, Kelven Perpetuo added 15 points, and Jhonel Roberts scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
“It was a back and forth game and we were tied at halftime, but Lowell had the lead most of the second half,” said Salem Coach Tom Doyle.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Medway 45, Peabody 41
The Peabody Tanners fell to Medway in a close game Wednesday night..
Junior Estrella was the leading scorer for the Tanners (9-9), scoring 19 points and grabbing an impressive 25 rebounds on the night. Jake Doherty and John Lawrence played solid all around games, according to Peabody coach Thad Broughton.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
St. Mary’s 8, Acton-Boxboro 1
The St. Mary’s boys came out firing, with seven different players scoring goals for them in a dominant victory.
The Spartans (17-3) were led by goalie Andrew LoRusso, who had 15 saves on the night.
Mike Zampanti scored two goals and had one assist, while six of his teammates also scored.
“It was a great team win,” said coach Mark Lee.
St. Mary’s is set to play in the Springfield Tournament Championship game against Pope Francis.
Salem 2, Somerville 1
With 25 seconds left in the game, the Witches scored a goal to sneak past Somerville.
Chris Masta scored the first goal for Salem, and Ishmael Telemaco scored the game winner.
Peabody 5, Concord-Carlisle 0
With a shutout victory over Concord-Carlisle, the Tanners (12-4-4) closed out their regular season.
Owen Brewster scored two goals, bringing his season total to 22, and added an assist on Wednesday night. Nick Merryman, Chris Gillen, and Chris Goggin (who scored his first varsity goal) each found the back of the net in the victory. Ethan LeBlanc had a solid night, spreading the puck on three of the five goals scored for Peabody.
“We had a great season overall being 12-4-4, and finishing second in the league behind Marblehead,” said Peabody coach Mark Leonard.
The Tanners get a two week break before the start of the Division 2 North Tournament.
Haverhill 3, Danvers 0
The Falcons dropped their first game of the Newburyport Bank Ice Hockey Classic to Haverhill at Henry Graf Skating Rink.
St. John’s 2, Braintree 2
St. John’s Prep got off to a fast start with the first of two goals scored by Dan Hennessey before the second minute of play, but Braintree responded with a goal of their own towards the end of the first period. Prep had the shots on goal advantage, but Braintree goalie David McDonough wasn’t fazed, saving 13 shots in the third period alone.
Lynnfield 3, Saugus 2
The Pioneers (9-7-3) punched their ticket to the postseason in dramatic fashion on senior night. Senior forward Derek Crampe netted the game-winning goal with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Despite the loss, Sachems’ sophomore goalie Nick Sanderson recorded 47 saves.

Quincy 1, Peabody 0
The Tanners suffered a close home loss to Quincy at McVann-O’Keefe Memorial Rink.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 66, Danvers 36
The Crusaders improved to 17-3 on the season with a win at Danvers. Senior Sydney Brennan led Fenwick with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Sophomore Fredi Deguglielmo and junior Sam Mancinelli each added 12 points for the Crusaders, as well.
