Thanks to 19 points from David Rowinsky, the Saugus boys improved to 8-7 on the season with a 73-59 win over Swampscott on the road on Friday.
“We came out real flat in the first half with bad defense,” said Saugus coach Paul Moran. “We picked it up in the second half with outstanding defense by our starters, and really our whole team.”
For Swampscott, Nick Scibelli finished with a game-high and career-high 29 points.
Beverly 60, Classical 49
In a solid win over the Rams this brings the Panthers overall record to 9-5. Coach Scott Lewis said “it was a great win for us after losing to Classical in the first game of the year and our defense was the key for us tonight.”
Some top performers for the Panthers were Sam Traicoff with 26 points, Hugh Calice with 10 points and 13 rebounds, Ryan Garrity had nine points with seven rebounds and Kyle Coughlin had eight points with five assists. John Loreti and Ryan Anderson both had great efforts in the win as well according to Coach Lewis.
St. Mary’s 83, Cristo Rey 41
With 15 points from Jonathan Mola and 11 points from Matt Cross, St. Mary’s moved to 9-4. St. Mary’s will look to carry the momentum against Archbishop Williams on Monday.
Gloucester 60, Winthrop 47
In a dominant performance for the Fishermen, captain John Philpott scored 27 points on the night.
Salem 70, Marblehead 53
The Salem boys continued their winning ways, improving their record to 14-0 Friday. Ricky Arias led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Joel Nunez contributed 16 points and Alex Sanchez had 15 points.
