The Peabody/Lynnfield girls hockey team is on a roll.
After a getting off to a sluggish 0-3 start, the Tanners have won three of their last four games along with a tie, picking seven points in the process to pull the team to within one game of .500 at 3-4-1.
Peabody’s latest win was last Saturday when the Tanners routed Shawsheen Tech, 9-1, at Janas Memorial Rink in Lowell. Peabody led 3-0 on goals by 15, Cassie Mirasolo and 9 Mae Norton with a little more than two minutes left in the first period. The Tanners put the game out of reach with three goals over the last 2:05 to take a 6-0 lead into the second period.
Eight different Tanners got in on the scoring action. Junior forward Molly Smedira led the offense with a goal and two assists, while Carolyn Garafoli had two goals and Cassie Mirasolo, Molly Pifko of Lynnfield, Jess Robert, also of Lynnfield and Peabody resident Alicia Gillen each had a goal and an assist. “We had 10 contributors to the goals and I am very happy with the effort,” said Peabody coach Michelle Roach.
It was an abbreviated schedule Saturday as most schools saw their games postponed due to the weekend snowstorm.
