Seniors Dean Borders and Matt Andreas combined for all five Danvers touchdowns as the Falcons won a football slugfest over Beverly Saturday at Hurd Stadium.
It looked as if it was going to be a Danvers runaway, as the Falcons took a 35-14 lead, on Andreas’ second touchdown of the game, with only 5:17 left to play. However, the game wasn’t over as far as Beverly quarterback Kevin Morency was concerned. Morency hit Kevin Chouinard for an 8-yard scoring pass and then he connected with Sam Abate with another TD toss before Andreas corralled an onside kick to preserve the win.
Danvers to a 7-0 lead on the game’s opening drive as Borders sneaked his way up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown. However, the 4-2 Panthers got it back on a 46-yard touchdown run by Chouinard.
Borders’ 26-yard quarterback draw early in the second quarter put Danvers back in front, and Andreas’ 9-yard run, on which he broke several tackles, made it 21-7.
Beverly got back into the game just before halftime when Morency found Chris Cole for a 16-yard scoring pass, but Borders sneaked in from the 1-yard line for a second time two plays into the final frame before Andreas added onto the lead.

Yarin then got to work, pounding the ball in from the 2-yard line to give St. John’s a 14-10 lead with 1:12 left in the half.
Less than a minute later, senior wideout/defensive back Hayden Rockett intercepted a Connor Cady pass and returned it 43 yards deep into BC territory. Rockett (8 catches, 75 yards) got behind the defense and snagged Yarin’s 27-yard strike in the end zone, St. John’s extended that lead to 28-10 in the third quarter on Yarin’s 13-yard TD keeper.
