Wheelabrator Saugus received the 2013 Community Service Recognition Award from the Northeastern Conference recently for the company?s ongoing community engagement initiatives. The award is presented annually to individuals and companies that show a commitment to supporting the schools in their respective communities.?The company is an asset to Saugus High School, the athletic department and the community as a whole,” said Saugus High athletic director Mike Nelson, who nominated Wheelabrator for the award. “Every time we ask Wheelabrator for help, they not only come through, but in many cases Wheelabrator employees contribute time, energy and funding beyond what we have asked for.”Earlier this year, Wheelabrator donated a new scoreboard for the main gymnasium at the high school, allowing Saugus High to successfully complete a renovation project. Wheelabrator has also served as the main sponsor of the Saugus High Athletics Golf Tournament, the major fundraiser for sports teams and student-athletes.?We are proud to support our local schools and organizations, and our employees place a high value on taking an active role in the community whenever possible,” Wheelabrator Saugus plant manager Eric Lucier said. “We sincerely appreciate the recognition from Mike and the Northeastern Conference.”Wheelabrator is also a business partner of both the Ballard Early Childhood Center and Waybright Elementary School. The company annually provides holiday gifts for Ballard students and hosts a field trip for the entire school at its Bear Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. Wheelabrator also sponsors Waybright?s field day at the end of the school year.
