The North Shore Navigators split their doubleheader at Nashua on Monday, with the Navs taking the win in the first game, 11-5, but falling to the Silver Knights in the second game, 6-4.
In game one, the Navs got off to a quick start and never looked back. The Navs plated 10 runs in the top of the first inning. Tyler Kapuscinski drove in three runs in the inning, two on a triple and another with a bases-loaded walk. Nick Falkson hit an RBI groundout and later a two-run single. Nate Rossi, Brad Douglas, Joey Pena and Chris Cabrera each hit an RBI single in the inning.
Nashua got on the board in the bottom of the third and back to back RBI singles in the fourth slimmed the Navs’ lead to 10-4. Alex Brickman doubled in the top of the sixth and scored on an infield error to give the Navs an 11-5 lead.
Pena and Kapuscinski each reached base four times apiece.
In game two, Kapuscinski laced an RBI single, scoring Daane Berezo, for an early 1-0 Navs lead. Brickman followed with a two-run home run to bump the Navs advantage to 3-0. The Silver Knights got one back in the bottom of the first but an error in the third inning allowed the Navs to tack on another run for a 4-1 lead. The Navs led 4-3 until Nashua’s Cam Cruz hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth to flip the script. Cruz’s blast gave Nashua a 6-4 lead. The Navs were retired in order in the seventh and Nashua took the 6-4 win.
With the split, the Navs are now winners of three of their last four and stand at 10-15. The Navs are back in action this afternoon, when they visit the Seacoast Mavericks at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
